Vättern - Småland
7 day cycle tour with ****hotel accommodation
Småland is one of the biggest areas of Sweden. The tour begins in the town Jönköping,
which is situated next to the second largest lake of Sweden; “Vättern”. You will
often be able to enjoy the lovely views on this lake during this trip. You will get
to Gränna via Huskvarna. Gränna is a tourist town, known for the many peppermint
stick factories. You will see how these peppermint sticks are made. From Gränna you
will make, among other things, a daytrip to the island Visingö. Here you can visit
for example a former castle.

Gränna, peppermint stick factories, island Visingö, Lucifer museum.
Program
Day 1:
Arrival in Jönköping.
You will get your information package, a travelling plan and
possibly your rental bike.
Overnight stay: Hotel Savoy, Jönköping.
Day 2:
Daytour Jönköping – Mullsjö – Jönköping. Approx. 55 km.
You will get on your bike
at the hotel and drive on the western part of the Vättern to Bankeryd and further
to Mullsjö, which is of the same name as the lake. After a visit to this town you
will ride over nice and calm roads back to Jönköping.
Overnight stay: Hotel Savoy,
Jönköping.
Day 3:
Jönköping – Gränna. Approx. 42 km.
From Jönköping you will drive to neighbouring Huskvarna
(known for its sewing machines). The road is first lightly going up, with a view
on the Vättern. Subsequently you will drive over calm land roads where you will pass
by small town with the typical red Swedish houses every now and then. A small part
of the road is not paved. Just before Gränna the hotel will be reached. It is built
in the style of a castle.
Overnight stay: hotel Gyllene Uttern, Gränna.
Day 4:
Daytour Gränna – Gränna. Approx. 45 km.
After breakfast in the “Knight’s hall” there
will be a day tour to the north on the programme. You will drive through the centre
of Gränna, a town which is known for its’ many peppermint stick factories. You can
see on various places how these peppermint sticks are made. Then you will drive further
to Uppgränna with a beautiful view on the Vättern and the island Visingö. Today’s’
tour is severe, but the beautiful scenery will soften the feeling.
Overnight stay:
hotel Gyllene Uttern, Gränna.
Day 5:
Day tour Visingö. Approx. 38 km.
From the hotel you will drive to Gränna’s harbour.
You will take the boat from here to the historical island Visingö. This island does
not have any cars driving around and is therefore perfect to explore by bike. A visit
to the castle from 1100 in Näs is absolutely worth it.
Overnight stay: Hotel Gyllene
Uttern, Gränna.
Day 6:
Gränna – Jönköping. Approx. 51 km.
You will return today via another way to your hotel
in Jönköping. Again, you can enjoy the lovely Swedish scenery on your way. You will
drive past the “Landsjön” lake.
Overnight stay: hotel Savoy, Jönköping.
Day 7:
After breakfast the last of the hired gear is returned and it’s time to day goodbye.

Level:
This trip has got some small differences in height. Some parts are hilly, but
there are also flat parts. The sloping landscape is for people with a fair shape
for riding a bike. The distances per day vary between the 30 and 50 km. There will
be tried to avoid as many busy tracks as possible, but this will not work all the
time. The biggest part of the trip is over paved ways, but there are also some non-paved
ways. These ways are very suitable to drive over by bike though.
