8 days, individual cycling tour with lodging in hotels and Bed & Breakfasts.

The sky and the sea as one - a sky-sea. Maybe it is this meeting of the sky and the sea that makes the light so special and attracts so many visitors to the southeast of Sweden. "Österlen” is the southern part of the province Skåne. Here you will find amazing sights in a beautiful landscape with changing light. The roads are flat to slightly undulating and you regularly pass nice places to stop for a cup of coffee. You will constantly smell the fresh sea breeze. In short a perfect setting for a wonderful cycling holiday.

It is not only restricted to a beautiful landscape and fresh air. Ystad and Simrishamn are picturesque villages that definitely are worth visiting. "Ales Stenar" and the "Glimmingehus" are cultural-historical monuments that you should see and of course don’t miss out the national park "Stenshuvud”.

Program:

Day 1

Arrival in Ystad. In this picturesque town, with its enjoyable center, are the Wallender series recorded. Visit e.g. the filmmuseum after you arrived. Stay over in: Ystad

Day 2

Stage 1: Ystad – Brantevik approx. 44 km.

Just outside Ystad, you cycle directly along the sea. During the trip you pass such nice places for a cup of coffee or to have a refreshing swim. In "Ales Stenar" you will of course stop to take a closer look at the Swedish "Stonehenge". Stay over in: Brantevik.

Day 3

Stage 3: Brantevik - Kivik approx. 43 km.

You just stepped on the bike and it is already time to get off again for visiting the medieval castle "Glimmingehus”. Later in the journey you pass the lovely port Simrishamn, where you can have a rest on a lovely terrace. Then the last remaining part of the leg to Kivik, whereby you’ll, for instance, pass the National Parc “Stenshuyud”. Stay over in: Kivik.

Day 4

Stage 3: Daytrip Kivik approx. 50 km or Free day.

Today you can choose to take a day off. Kivik offers enough to spend your day in a wonderful way. Do you still prefer the bike, then a nice day trip in northern direction is on the program, with sometimes a tough climb. Stay over in: Kivik.

Day 5

Stage 4: Kivik - Sövestad approx. 48 km

This longest leg of the journey, you will visit Sövestad. You enjoy the southern Swedish landscape and with that you have a quick stop in the village Tomelilla. Your accommodation in Sövestad is situated in the centre of several farmlands.. Here you can let the peace and space of Sweden sink in to you. Stay over in: Sövestad.

Day 6

Stage 5: Daytrip Sövestad approx. 45 km.

Today you get on the bike for a daytrip to the charming town Sjöbo. During the route you come along several nice swimming spots and you’ll pass the beautifully situated "Snogeholmsslot”. When you prefer to stay at the accommodation, then that is possible too. Stay over in: Sövestad.

Day 7

Stage 6: Sövestad - Ystad approx. 42 km.

During the stage which takes you back to the start of the tour you will enjoy magnificent views. Throught the farmlands and along small hamlets like Snårestad, cycles back to the coast and then to Ystad. Stay over in: Ystad. Day 8 After breakfast the tour ends.

Level

A big part of the route is almost flat roads and bike paths. Furthermore, this part of Sweden has a rolling landscape, where the heights are minimal. Occasionally, a climb can occur. Some riding experience is therefore desirable. An average bike stage will lie between approx. 40km and 55km.
